![]() This makes it so that we can’t do a full long-range run without some serious strategy and cash, but it’s well worth it for the insane combos you can pull off with the switching. The gun’s ammo is recharged by using the blade. You can switch weapons in this game, between a blade and a gun. ‘Switching weapons’? That’s one of the unique features I was talking about. Their default functions are to dodge an attack and to switch weapons. The circle button’s function can be adjusted, along with the R button, in the options menu. ![]() The controls are pretty intuitive for an average PSP gamer: analog stick to move, square and triangle to attack, X to jump. The only difference here is that the ‘spells’ are actually customizable bullets. The green gauge is your ‘Oracle Points’, the equivalent of ‘Mana Points’ in most games used to cast spells. The red gauge is your HP, and when you deplete it all you become incapacitated until someone either Link-Aids you (lets say for now this ‘revives’ you) or until 30 seconds elapse without a Link-Aid, after which you will respawn up to two times before you fail the mission. Only in GEB, you have the choice of either soloing or taking three other members of the Gods Eater cast with you, as AI controlled characters, at least most of the time. You’re in an open field, and are supposed to hunt the Aragami (GEB’s equivalent of a monster) which you’ve accepted the mission for. If you’ve played “Monster Hunter” before, the gameplay will likely be familiar to you. I highly recommend watching them all without skipping. The implications of each are just too sad, at least when I think of them story-wise. The heart-rending cutscenes, not going to be spoiled here, are really something to look forward to. The addition of the Burst storyline to the original God Eater (the predecessor of Gods Eater Burst) makes most ends meet, and even brings someone back from the dead in the final challenge mission. It’s pretty straightforward, and the existence of an antagonist aside from the Aragami is not even hinted at before one obvious example arrives in a cutscene, making for a drastic and unprecedented plot twist(not to mention the saddest one I’ve seen yet). In regards to its originality though, I would say that the acquisition of a certain something to create a utopia ranks a 2 on a scale of 1-5, as in not very original, but manages to pull it off. The only drawback from this is that we expect another cutscene after the mission… only to find that we have to go and do another one before it. The plotline advances quickly in the beginning, then slows down some in the middle as the research is being conducted, much like how it would advance in an actual research/survival facility. There is a lot of feeling in each of the tracks, for the battle ones a sense of urgency, and for the Den themes… well, they change over time as you progress with the story, but the one in the beginning oozes rookie excitement and the desire to please experienced by all newcomers to a company in the present day, along with the addition of an undertone of danger – it is a dangerous line of work after all. It fits in perfectly with the whole post-apocalypse setting, and since some of the tracks are tailored to fit the Aragami’s origins and story, it’s a lot more dynamic and ultimately made me buy the soundtrack off an online store. ![]() The soundtrack is amazing, and I mean seriously so. It seems a lot of other players do, mainly due to the perception that the information gained from the conversation seems forced, but I think it follows a normal course of thinking… maybe I’m just overthinking things. The voice-acting in the English version is actually quite good. Lindow, the guy with the brown coat, is your mentor for the part of the story where he’s present. Just to clarify things, “Gods Eater Burst” and “Monster Hunter” are made by two separate companies. The reason for this is that it plays a lot like “Monster Hunter”, but it does have many features that are completely new and unique, different from its ‘source’. “Gods Eater Burst” is usually classified as a “Monster Hunter” clone, and those who do will be somewhat accurate with that description. In any case, welcome to the first Special: a “Gods Eater Burst” Reising! It’s a PSP game, and one which you should definitely check out if you have the time this holiday. It didn’t seem right to post a special yesterday. Whether you’re celebrating this holiday or not, today’s Reising has been moved up from yesterday to today seeing as the most festive day is today after all. Good evening readers! Today’s a special day, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ for those of you who are Christians or Catholics, and simply a day to eat chocolate eggs and bunnies for free as samples from supermarkets for others.
